Getting away from it all in the Sierra Almijara mountains

On Sunday 1st February we drove up the track next to the Nerja Caves to start our walk near the Pinarillo picnic area. We walked up onto Cerro Molinero in the Sierra Almijara range. It started on a good forest track towards the Fuente del Esparto. Just before the fuente we headed up a dry river bed where the track swung left then we followed this which zigzagged uphill for about an hour with some amazing views of the surrounding hills.

When we reached the top of the ridge the going got a lot easier and we eventually made our way down to join another forest track which we followed all the way back to the  car. The walk took 3 hours with a bit of effort required walking up to the top of the ridge but the spectacular scenery made it worthwhile.

On Monday 2nd February we did another walk in the Sierra Almijara mountains this time going from Fuente del Esparto up to Collado de la Terriza and back. We drove to the Fuente and immediately started uphill on another steep zigzagging track taking in more stunning views.

When we arrived at the coll after a walking uphill for about 2 hours we had a bite to eat and then retraced out steps back down to car. The total time of the walk was 3 hours 30 minutes.
